Our Refugee Initiative

To honour our 140th Anniversary, the Diocese has launched a refugee sponsorship initiative to compassionately respond to one of the most pressing human needs of our time. Not since the Second World War has the number of refugees been so great, and what better way to celebrate the countless lives that have been transformed through our many ministries than by transforming lives together through this initiative.

Transforming Lives Together

Time and time again, we have seen that when we come together and make room for Christ, the possibilities are endless. Sponsoring a refugee family doesn't just change their life; it changes everyone's life. As a sponsor of refugees, the Diocese has a unique opportunity to respond to this immense human need. Many churches are giving leadership in this area, but are happy to be a channel for those who do not have a church connection and would like to help.

But we need resources to do so. On average, it costs approximately $25,000 for a family of four to be resettled to Canada. While many are willing to respond generously, it is often difficult for parishes to contemplate frequent refugee sponsorships because of the associated costs. Our goal is to raise enough funds to equip our parishes to sponsor up to 50 refugees.
