Diocese Launches the Stations of the Resurrection Resource for its 150th Anniversary Year!

Posted March 26, 2025

For 150 years, our diocese has been shaped by the ever-renewing power of Christ’s Resurrection. This power has guided and sustained Niagara Anglicans for generations. To celebrate, the diocese is sharing a special meditative prayer resource, The Stations of the Resurrection, or Via Lucis (Way of Light), in thanksgiving for these years.

"It's a beautiful prayer resource for our parishes and missions to walk in the glory of Christ's resurrection," said Bishop Susan Bell. "What better way to celebrate 150 years of being an Easter people in this diocese than to pray in this way."

This pilgrimage can be used independently or as a group so that this Easter season may be a time of renewal. Through twelve meditative stations, participants are invited to reflect on Christ's appearances and actions after the resurrection.

The contents of this booklet were thoughtfully and prayerfully curated by our diocesan missioners, the Reverend Canon Dr. Ian Mobsby, community missioner, and Dr. Emily Hill, parish development missioner, in consultation with our diocesan liturgical officer, the Reverend Canon Mike Deed. It is one of several initiatives taking place to mark the diocese's 150th anniversary, which includes raising funds to support the formation of new clergy.

"Stations of the Resurrection is an exciting and unique approach to celebrate and lean into the joy and consequences of Jesus rising from the dead, as the living hope of our faith and Church" says Canon Ian Mobsby. Each station consists of an image, scripture reading, reflective question, individual prayer, intercessory prayer, and shared prayer. "We hope this will equip our churches and missions to enter into the season of Easter in a fresh way this year," Mobsby adds.

The resource includes a variety of ideas for how it can be used and adapted to suit local contexts. This PDF file allows parishes, missions and individuals the opportunity to print their own resource. The file is set up as pages 8.5x 5.5 in size to allow for the printing on standard letter-sized paper, half-sized booklets. High-resolution photos are available to be printed on a larger scale to set up stations around the room.
