Help Bridge Gap in Funding for International Aid

Alongside Hope Issues an urgent appeal with new Resilience Fund.

Posted April 1, 2025

In recent months, the world of international development assistance has suffered enormous losses because of extensive cuts from the U.S. Government and some European governments.

On March 26, 2025, Alongside Hope, formerly the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund, issued an urgent appeal with the launch of a new 'Resilience Fund' in response to these cuts.

Alongside Hope has been working closely with the Anglican Alliance, the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, the ACT Alliance (Action by Churches Together) and Cooperation Canada to address the impact of these cuts. “Partners are reporting that progress is being undone, programs are being forced to shut down,” the appeal states, “families and communities are living in uncertainty about their futures.”

As Anglicans, we are called to care for our neighbours and the Earth. The work of international development agencies is vast, from providing medical support, education, clean water, and more in developing countries to safety and support for people experiencing gender-based violence to emergency environmental responses. The cuts to aid in these countries threaten our neighbours and the Earth.

Alongside Hope will not be able to fill the gaps left from the loss of these services, but with our help, they can reduce the impact.

Archbishop Anne Germond, acting Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, reflected that "while we cannot change what’s happening around us in this moment in history, we can choose how we act and where we offer our support.”
