Holy Saturday
Location: ON
Date: April 4, 2026
Holy Saturday is a day of quiet reflection on Jesus’ burial and rest in his tomb.
In the evening, some parishes may host an Easter Vigil. The Easter Vigil celebrates the transition from darkness to light. A large candle, called the Paschal Candle, which represents the risen Christ, is lit and leads the procession into a darkened church. The Exsultet, an Easter proclamation, is chanted or sung to rejoice in Jesus’ resurrection.
The service continues with a Liturgy of the Word, followed by a Renewal of our Baptismal Vows, and the Holy Eucharist. Before the Holy Eucharist, the presiding priest will announce, “Alleluia! Christ is risen!” The congregation will joyfully exclaim, “The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!” as we celebrate darkness to light and death to new life.
