About Synod 2026
The 152nd Synod of the Diocese of Niagara gathers clergy and lay delegates to worship God, discern the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and conduct the business of our diocese.
This year’s theme, “From Generation to Generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus,” is drawn from the Church’s doxology inspired by Ephesians 3:21. It reminds us that each generation carries forward the Church’s mission and calls us to encourage, equip, and welcome children, youth, and young adults as full participants in the life of Christ’s Church.
We invite delegates, observers, and all members of the diocesan community to prepare for Synod by reviewing the pre-synod materials and joining us in prayer for our shared work together.
Convening Circular
A convening circular summoning the Synod shall be issued by the Secretary to all members of Synod at least fourteen days prior to the date fixed for the meeting. Together with the convening circular shall be sent the list of Clergy and Lay Representatives and all notices of motion, proposed amendments or new Canons and reports of Committees.

Agenda
Registration will begin at 8:15am with a call to order at 9am. The day will conclude by 4:00pm.

Registration
Members of Synod are asked to register beginning at 8:15am and well in advance of the call to order at 9:00am.

Morning Session
The morning session will begin with a call to order, followed by a service of Eucharist and the Bishop’s Charge to Synod. After some organizing business, and the consideration of the consent agenda, members will receive a presentation on the diocesan Mission Action Plan, as well as a featured presentation by our Children, Youth and Family Missional Coordinator. The morning session will conclude with a missional moment about Canterbury Hills Camp and the consideration of several audit-related matters.

Lunch

Afternoon Session
Synod will reconvene after lunch with mid-day prayers and a missional moment about the St. Brigid's Community. The 2027 Diocesan Budget will then be presented and considered. Staff from Alongside Hope will share a presentation about the relief and development work undertaken on behalf of Canadian Anglicans. This will be followed by several canon changes related to Canon 4.1. The final missional moment will highlight the Grandparents Club. The executive director of the Anglican Foundation of Canada will then make the final presentation to Synod. Before Synod concludes with the bishop's assent and blessing, election results for both Synod Council and Provincial Synod elections will be shared.

Conclusion of Synod
Synod is expected to conclude between 3:30 and 4:00pm.
