Pastoral Care Training

This course will be a shared learning experience in which participants will reflect on how to practice and develop core helping skills from a trauma-informed perspective for use in a parish setting with youth. Participants will: identify and describe what is distinctive about pastoral care in a community; learn basic techniques in listening to God, others and self; and reflect on establishing boundaries, maintaining confidentiality and practicing self-care.

Deirdre Pike is Senior Social Planner at the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton, working with both grassroots organizations and policy-making bodies seeking Poverty Reduction. Deirdre’s other key role is related to Equity and Inclusion issues.  She is co-chair of the Hamilton Positive Space Collaborative and the Coordinator of Positive Space Training for The Well, Hamilton’s LGBTQ Community Wellness Centre.
