Call to Prayer

Pray for all affected by the violence in Ottawa and for peace in our world

Bishop Michael Bird and Dean Peter Wall visited the makeshift memorial forming at the entrance to the the Lt. Col. John Foote Armoury in Hamilton. They offered prayers for Cpl. Nathan Cirillo who died, for the people of Ottawa, for our nation, and for a world where violence is no more. On behalf of the Diocese they also expressed support to Mayor Bob Bratina and the people of Hamilton as we come to terms with recent events. Christ’s Church Cathedral, just a block away from the Armoury, is open for quiet prayer.

In the wake of the targeted killings of two Canadian solidiers, Bishop Bird urged the people and churches of the Diocese of Niagara “to uphold all those connected to the tragedies in prayer and to respond with acts of loving kindness.”  The Bishop added, “we will continue to be a people formed by love and hope, as we proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ who yearns for a world of justice and peace.”

The Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada has also urged Anglicans to join in prayer during this difficult time. A statement issued by the Primate's Office concludes with these prayerful words: "Now is a moment when the refrain of our national anthem, “O Canada, we stand on guard for thee” must echo in every heart. Let our guarding be in the diligence of our prayer:

Lord, keep this nation under your care,
and guide us in the way of justice and truth.
Let your way be known upon earth,
your saving health among all nations. Amen."
