Bishop Calls Spring Synod

May 23 Synod will consider Cathedral Place Revitalization Project

Posted April 13, 2015

Bishop Michael Bird has formally announced that he will be convening Synod in May to consider the proposed Cathedral Place revitalization project. Work has been underway for nearly two years under the leadership of Archdeacon Lynne Marchant to explore the development possibilities for Cathedral Place.

While Synod delegates were asked to hold the date in March, the decision to call a spring session of Synod was only made late last week after a thorough presentation to Synod Council. That presentation, along with much prayer and discernment, led the Bishop to believe that "no stone had been left unturned" by the Cathedral Place Development Task Force and that now was an appropriate time for the members of Synod to consider the proposed project.

SynodThis will be the first session of the 141st Synod and it will take place on the morning of Saturday May 23rd at Christ's Church Cathedral, 252 James Street North, Hamilton. "This session of Synod will be a critical moment in the life of our diocese," said Canon Marni Nancekivell, Secretary of Synod.

Parishes that have not already done so are asked to complete their vestry reporting forms online as soon as possible in order to facilitate the accreditation of delegates to Synod. Lay representatives to Synod will be those elected at 2015 vestry meetings.
