Ease hunger and isolation in our communities

We’re thrilled to announce that Ecclesiastical Insurance is partnering with our diocese to help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 to ease hunger and isolation in the communities we serve through our diocesan Pandemic Response Fund.

When you give to the Pandemic Response Fund between November 29th and December 4th your gift will double its impact due to the generosity of Ecclesiastical Insurance. Your contribution will increase as Ecclesiastical Insurance matches all gifts, dollar for dollar, providing up to $5,000 in support. Together we will provide support to initiatives seeking to help vulnerable people in our communities, including those who are isolated and those struggling financially due to layoffs caused by the pandemic.

Your gift will support programs like that at St. James & St. Brendan Anglican Church, Port Colborne. Their recently appointed rector, the Reverend Jody Balint, called saying, “The freezer broke down and all the meat is spoiled! Five hundred dollars ($500) worth of donated chicken for the Out of the Cold program. What are we going to do?”

The Out of the Cold program that would normally have ended in the spring had kept going at St. James & St. Brendan Anglican Church due to the increased community need caused by the pandemic. While the volunteers have not been able to serve meals in the Guild Hall, individuals pick up the pre-made meals for themselves or their families. Linda Lamarche, a long-time parishioner of St. James & St. Brendan Anglican Church and volunteer with the Out of the Cold program says they serve on average between 60-70 meals per week, and “nothing is wasted. All the leftover food goes to the local foodbank, packaged and ready to be distributed.”

We’re grateful that the diocesan Pandemic Response Fund was able to replace the spoiled food and provide funds for the new freezer. This vital program can continue because of the compassionate generosity of people like you.
