Diocese of Niagara Partners with the Ride for Refuge

October event to raise funds for 140th Refugee Sponsorship Initiative

Posted July 17, 2015

Parishes are responding to the Bishop’s invitation to support our 140th Anniversary Refugee Sponsorship Initiative in a variety of creative ways.

Ride for Refuge logoThe Ride for Refuge offers yet another way to help our diocese reach its goal of welcoming as many as 50 refugees to Canada. It’s a non-competitive family-friendly cycling and walking fundraiser that helps charities and their supporters to raise money for their work with the displaced, vulnerable and exploited.

The diocese has registered as a charity and we encourage parishes and individuals from across the diocese to ride, create or join a team, give or volunteer. Bishop Michael Bird will be participating in the event and will be the team captain of Team 252, named after Cathedral Place’s address. Learn more about how to create your parish team or join one here.

This year's ride will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2015. There will be two ride/walk locations available in our diocese - Hamilton and Fonthill - along with nearby locations in Brampton and Kitchener/Waterloo. Participants will have their choice of routes - 5km, 10km, 20km or 50km.
