Flags half-mastedJust a block away from the Lt. Col. John Foote Armoury, Christ's Church Cathedral will host the military funeral service for Corporal Nathan Cirillo. He was murdered on Wednesday while on sentry duty at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. Corporal Cirillo was a member of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise’s) based in Hamilton. The service is scheduled to take place on Tuesday October 28 at Noon. As per the wishes of the family, public attendance at Christ’s Church Cathedral will be restricted to invited guests only. The funeral service will be streamed to the public at First Ontario Centre located at 101 York Boulevard.

On Friday, Corporal Cirillo's body made its way home to Hamilton amidst crowded overpasses and streets along the procession's route. In the wake of the death of Corporal Cirillo, along with that of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent who was killed in a separate attack the day before, Bishop Michael Bird asks that the people and churches of the Diocese of Niagara continue “to uphold all those connected to the tragedies in prayer and to respond with acts of loving kindness.”

Those who would like to honour Corporal Cirillo are welcome to do so along the funeral procession route which will begin at The Argyll Commemorative Pavilion at Bayfront Park in Hamilton. The procession is scheduled to begin at Bayfront Park at 11:00 a.m. The funeral procession will head south along Bay Street North, then east along York Boulevard and then north along James Street North concluding at the Cathedral.
