Bishop's Company Funspiel Supports Refugees

Annual curling event raises over $5000

Posted February 24, 2016

Curlers from all parts of the diocese gathered at the Hamilton Victoria Curling Club for the annual Bishop's Company Funspiel on February 20. Over 55 people took part in the event which sees people of all skill levels come together for a fun day of activity to raise funds to support important ministry.

Normally funds raised by the Bishop's Company funspiel go directly towards assisting Anglicans in need with a primary emphasis on clergy and lay workers, and their families. This year, however, to help mark our diocesan anniversary the five thousand dollars that was raised by the Funspiel will support our 140th Anniversary Refugee Sponsorship Initiative. "We wanted this Funspiel to support our important efforts to respond to the global refugee crisis," said Canon Alison D'Atri who helped organize the event. "The need is overwhelming and so many lives are being changed through our sponsorship ministry."

While the day was marked by fun and friendly competition, one team still claimed the championship plaque, and that team consisted of Wayne Brown, Dave Borsellino, Des Brennan and Peter Kislinsky.
